Decide what you want to get out of your cooking class. From just a social experience to a semi-social instructional or to a fully instructional. Customize your own class:

The following are the types of events you can have. Choose from:
"The Knights Table" ~ This event includes preparing 2-4 dishes split into teams and then sitting down to a formal dinner with your group when all courses have been completed and ready to eat.
"Winner Takes All Chef's Challenge" ~ This is an Iron Chef competition, which would consist of one table with all the ingredients to have teams create a meat dish, a salad, a starch dish and an appetizer. A special guest chef and myself will then judge each dish on presentation, flavor, creativity and team work. The winning team will receive a special gift for winning the challenge.
"The Mystery Dish" ~ This challenge would be to make all your dishes with one special ingredient, where it will be just for fun to see how creative the teams can be and what you come up with.
"The Bon Voyage" ~ Is where we would take a journey to another land and re-create some dishes to bring you back to the places you have traveled. It is basically a themed class, i.e. Greek night, Italian night, Spanish night, etc...we will make four very authentic dishes from the region of your choice.
The kitchen rental is an independent cost aside from the price per person and will range from $180-$1,200 depending on how many people need to fit into the space. If you are a smaller group and just want a space that has more to offer, i.e. amazing views, outdoor space, etc... you may pay for the more expensive rentals as well.
I do not supply any wine or beverages but you are welcome to bring as much of anything as you like. I do have wine distributors that can help you out with wine lists and wine pairings for your selected menu if you so choose. Feel free to email me with any more questions or concerns regarding this.
I can assure you that an event with Simmer and Sear will be a far more unique experience than any other cooking classes offered in the San Francisco Bay area.
Gift Certificates Available! Please email me for information on how to purchase.

Sushi Making Class
Interested in learning how to make sushi? Or just want to watch how to make sushi, socialize, drink wine & sake and eat sushi? Well, look no further...
Sushi is low in fat and is a very nutritious food. A typical setting of 7 to 9 pieces contains about 300-450 calories. The fish in sushi provides protein and can be a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. Vegetables are a great source of vitamines. Seaweed is rich in iodine. And rice provides complex carbohydrates.
Sushi is perhaps the most famous Japanese food in the world. In Japanese cuisine, sushi indicates dishes that use sushi rice, which is seasoned with a sweet vinegar mixture. Since Japan is surrounded by ocean, seafood has always been widely consumed as well as rice. So, the combination of raw fish and rice, sushi, naturally became a popular food in Japan.

Moroccan cuisine has long been considered as one of the most diversified cuisines in the world. This is a result of the centuries-long interaction of Morocco with the outside world. The cuisine of Morocco is a mix of Berber, Spanish, Corsican, Portuguese, Moorish, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and African cuisines. The cuisine of Morocco has been influenced by the native Berber cuisine, the Arabic Andalusian cuisine brought by the Moriscos when they left Spain, the Turkish cuisine from the Turks and the Middle Eastern cuisines brought by the Arabs, as well as Jewish cuisine.
Spices are used extensively in Moroccan food. While spices have been imported to Morocco for thousands of years, many ingredients, like saffron from Tiliouine, mint and olives from Meknes, and oranges and lemons from Fez, are home-grown. Chicken is the most widely eaten meat in Morocco. The most commonly eaten red meat in Morocco is beef; lamb is preferred, but is relatively expensive. Couscous is the most famous Moroccan dish along with pastilla, tajine, and harira. The most popular drink is green tea with mint. The tea is accompanied with hard sugar cones or lumps.

"A Taste of Spain" ~ Tapas
In Spain, an appetizer, called an entremése, is a complement to a meal while a tapa is something altogether different. Although an entremés can be the same little food that a tapa is, it is served differently. It is literally the appetizer coming before the first course. Tapas, on the other hand, are not appetizers. They are tiny plates of food served in bars all over Spain to accompany drinks.
Come join me and others and travel to the regions of Spain. We will be learning about where and how the word "Tapa" came from and also creating 5 or 6 tapas of our own to enjoy!
